Last week BMW X5 launched their new car and Cottesloe’s BASLER fashion boutique showed their latest collections to a room filled with gorgeously dressed luxury transport aficionados at the Auto Classic showroom in Victoria Park. BASLER Cottesloe store owner, Justin Birchmore kindly invited me to attend based on some coverage I did HERE for their boutique opening last year. I brought along a guest and happily tried my luck at shooting the event front of house for a rare change to give some breathing space to event organisers backstage. While I was allowed backstage, I actually thought I would try my luck taking some pictures of the runway and I must say, considering the lens on West Australian photographer, John Koh’s camera – who stood right next to me, my runway photos turned out alright. I certainly wouldn’t want to make a habit out of it (as I truly love taking photos from backstage and the model interaction involved) but it was a lot of fun. Enjoy!
BASLER, which originates from Germany has a rather impressive reputation in Australian and I must say before being properly introduced to the brand, I used to be dumbfounded when seeing how often fashion editors noted their pieces as must-haves for future seasons. This is not only because the pieces are targeted at an older demographic than what we’re used to seeing on the glossy pages of Vogue but also because it is rather conservative overall. It certainly couldn’t hurt that this brand has exorbitant advertising budgets for the likes of Vogue and as a result, in-kind editorial mentions whenever possible, however credibility must be paid where due and over time I have learnt that immaculate tailoring and a famous heritage has to account for a lot when it comes to BASLER.
After learning more about the brand, I can certainly be counted as one of the fans and indeed found some serious must-haves of my own in this showcase. It is also worth noting here that there is a serious lack of traditional, classic and age appropriate pieces for women available for various age-groups in the current marketplace, including the baby boomer, so I am sure there are many women out there who thank god for BASLER!
We all know that good style comes down to good styling at any age and I would love to style my wardrobe with some of these pieces! I love the tropical print mixed with leopard and fluro green in the lightweight caftan style fabric that I would mix with a million layered accessories and possibly even another clashing print and who the hell doesn’t want a perfect pink tweed jacket or a flattering pair of white jeans? I now know I do! The more formal dresses were a delight also, a lot younger than other pieces and more girlie, presented towards the end of the show. The black encrusted shoulder dress that Chadwick model Caris Tiivel wore was so beautifully figure hugging, the drape and cut were notably flattering and for those of you who are lucky enough to call yourself a BASSLER client, I say hooray for you.

While my surname is responsible for a fair bit of embarrassment from time to time, it’s nice to see that these watches were clearly made for me! BALL represent!
